Eating utensils

Blakeley is having fun in her eating adventures!  She is usually opposed to eating cereal--until we introduced the gyro bowl. She enjoyed the cereal enough to take more than the usual two bites since it came in this fancy bowl.  The gyro bowl is supposed to be "kid friendly" and "spill proof", see here how it is 'supposed' to work, it has handles that are easy for little hands to grab and twirls around for no spills, no matter how the child is holding it.  As we learned it does indeed work...unless the bowl is thrown across the room and onto the floor.

Blakeley has also been desperate to drink from our glasses so I got her one of her own.  I was expecting a long learning process--she knew exactly what to do and was eager to drink her water by herself.

On the go...or not

Blakeley wants to go somewhere so badly on her own. Documenting her "movement":

Let's see...
If I roll over like this...
 scoot around this way...
flip back over and grab this...
 push a little...
move my legs and feet like this...
 swing them over here...
Did that do it?  Did I get anywhere?
NO?! All that work to go nowhere?!
Well, I won't give up that easily...maybe if I lift myself up high like this...
and push with my arms a bit...
 wiggle my legs around...
 There, did that do it?
ONLY a LITTLE? This is hard work...
I think I'll roll over and try again another day!

Let it Snow!

So we finally had our first snow fall here in Columbus.  It was Blakeley's first sight of snow.  She wasn't as excited and happy as I was but was curious for about 2 minutes, then it was back to playing.

6 Months Old!

Blakeley is 6 months old!  Oh my, how fast half a year has gone by!   She prefers to be sitting up by herself, so she has had a few 'crashes' lately (she doesn't put her arms out to catch herself yet).  Inspired by all the other kids at storytime, she is lunging forward and scooting her legs out from under her (wanting to crawl/move) but can't quite hold her weight on her legs yet.  She then will attempt to move and spin around but gets quite frustrated (more on that in a different post). When she does lay down to play, she is rolling over with purpose-she mastered rolling from her back to her belly this month.  She rolls from her back to her belly to reach a toy and then back over so she could play with it once she had grabs it.  Her new favorite "game" is pick up and drop: She picks things up, switches hands, drops it and picks it up again with the other hand, switches and so on, over and over and over again--until I get tired of commenting on the game and distract her with something else.  She is also really into technology and paper.  Any time she sees a screen of any kind, she squeals with excitement and flaps her arms (is this a good thing or a bad thing???) and she is so determined to have every piece of paper she sees and stick it in her mouth.  It is quite devastating when she can't reach it or it is taken away once she does have it in her grips. We have experienced many meltdowns due to paper.  We're also working on sleep--oh how I desire more sleep!--with all of her growth and learning, she has totally changed her sleeping pattern, waking up several times a night.  Hopefully with time and a little "training" we can be sleeping through the night! Overall she is a happy and healthy girl (going to the doctor next week and will update with the stats then) and is having so much fun exploring the world!

What's that you say?  I'm 6 months old today?! Hooray!
Is that why this paper is here? Does this say I'm 6 months old today?
You don't see me grabbing this right now, I'm so slick, I'll just stare at you and grab it without you noticing because...I must have it!!!

 It tastes so good!
You say I "can't" have it, that it doesn't taste good, and that you're going to take it away from me?

I don't think so!  Look how cute and happy I am! You REALLY don't want to take it away from me on my 6th month BIRTHDAY, do you?!?!

Guacamole Girl

Blakeley has been trying lots of new foods! She has tried and liked banana, avacado, and apples. You can tell that she likes it when it is all over her face--she tries to help by grabbing the spoon, bowl, and food and put it all in her mouth. She has also tried peas, which I'm not sure if she likes or dislikes the taste but she did not like the texture...I have been making her food so far and don't think I pureed them enough for her.

I called her "guacamole girl" all day because she enjoyed the avacado so much!

Little Things that go unnoticed

Today it is cold here in Columbus but the sun is shining through what seems like every window. Blakeley was mesmerized by the sunshine today: staring at the sun shining my hand and arm, at the shadow it was creating on the table, and the little dust particles flying through the air that were sparkling in the sunshine.  I hadn't noticed any of this until I was watching her in wonder...when do these little things become unnoticed? What a beautiful day!

Happy New Year!

Wishing you a very happy 2012!
Blakeley is a party animal! She helped ring in the new year a little early--her bedtime is generally around 7pm these days so we made sure to celebrate with her a little earlier than midnight.  (Although, she was awake to see midnight as well thanks to the fireworks, honking horns and train whistle!)

She has made some resolutions for 2012...learn how to crawl and walk, learn a new language, sleep through the night, and try to give up the pacifier! All of which I'm sure she will accomplish. 2012 is going to be a great year!
